As good as it gets... evolutionarily speaking....
That's what we're being told by scientists... yes, apparently this is as good as it gets in the evolutionary sense. Humans are at their peak. The very idea makes me shudder with... what... disbelief? disgust? I'm not sure... but I refuse to believe that it's true. The intellectual boffins have said that life expectancy is at it's optimum, genetic mutation is slowing, and basically, this is it. To quote, "So, if you are worried about what utopia is going to be like, don't - at least in the developed world, and at least for the time being, you are living in it now."
Are you SERIOUS? I would hardly call the western world utopian. Socially, for a start, people are a lot more aggresive, uncaring, selfish, materialistic and (I think) unfulfilled emotionally. You just have to look at the amount of violent crimes escalating in society, the 'turn a blind eye' attitude of the public, and lack of respect for monogamy, authority, family or others in general to realise that social values have taken a downward turn.
Then, there's the argument that if we are as evolved as we're going to get, why are we still using 10% of our brains? Ok, so science doesn't really recognise what you may describe as paranormal, alternative or spiritual, but I for one solidly accept the fact that I have certainly not learnt all I can about myself, what I'm capable of and how far I can push myself emotionally, physically, mentally...
If we're at the top of our game in the evolutionary race, I'm guessing X-Men and Heroes are just a fantasy after all! Shame, I really wanted to be the next Claire Bennett or Hiro Nakamura!

As far as evolution, I believe humans can still evolve, but it'd take a very long time to see any major mutation happen within our species. You and me would have already been deceased when that occurs.
