I'm a Squat contributor!

Well, it's official! My article has been published on Squat magazine's Highstreet Squatter blog section! I think I shall carry on contributing as I really enjoyed writing the post (and it gave me an excuse to do a bit of 'research' into coloured skinny jeans). Maybe this is just the start of something big... first Squat magazine, next the WORLD! Muhahahahaaa... (yes, ok, getting ahead of myself I know).

For those of you who are interested in fashion (and are female as I can't see any guy wanted to read about women's clothing) clicky click here to read my article or see below!

This summer, there's a mass of different styles and trends coming into fashion, but one of the few that have caught my eye is the new craze for brightly coloured skinny fit jeans. The shops are stocked with a vast array of rainbow coloured denim which are great teamed up with summery tops and heels, but being of Chinese descent means finding a pair that will fit can be a nightmare! With only a handful of high street shops selling shorter length jeans suitable for the vertically challenged, it can be difficult for us BBC (British Born Chinese) gals to find the perfect pair without having to pay the earth. So with this in mind, I've carried out a bit of research on affordable outlets that cater for those of us with teeny legs so you don't have to trudge round the shops for hours and having nothing to show for it but blisters!

River Island
One of my favourite shops River Island provides jeans in a wide range of styles and sizes as well as varying leg length. Prices are reasonable, starting at a measley £34.99 and come in a range of colours. The biggest bonus is that the leg lengths not only come in regular and long, but a BBC friendly short (29" leg) and x short (28" leg). Personally I find the cut of River Island jeans quite good although they have a tendency to stretch after a few washes.

Top shop
Another shop that won't break the bank, Top Shop is famous for it's funky style and up to the minute trend setting stock. Again, jeans come in different colours as well as cuts and styles, but it may be harder to get a basic skinny/straight leg pair in a specific colour as styles are SO wide ranging. As well as straight and skinny cut jeans, Top Shop also include high waisted, stirruped and 70's flared versions. BBC girls may be limited to the petite range and if you're buying online read the size guide very carefully as there's no definitive measurements for leg length. Jeans generally start at £40 a pair.

Primark
You either love it or hate it, and admittedly until recently I'd never even dream of buying jeans from everyone's favourite bargain basement store, but surprisingly their jeans are actually quite good! Although they don't come in different leg lengths, the 4 or 5 pairs of skinny fit jeans I did buy didn't require taking up and for around £15 a pair it won't break the bank to get the dry cleaners to do it for you. Stock changes weekly so you may also need a few trips before finding the pair you like in the right colour, but believe me once you do, buy a few pairs or you'll wear them to death and then kick yourself for pinching the pennies. Unfortunately, you'll have to brave the jumble sale, which every shop seems to turn into after half an hour of opening it's doors, as you can't shop online.

ASOS.com
If you shop from one online store, ASOS has to be it. The name says it all, standing for as seen on screen. The website has up to the minute fashion trends from the biggest stars from film and TV. From expensive designer gear to more affordable high street copies, the website boasts a vast array of jeans so you can capture the same look as the celebs. They even provide photos of the famous faces wearing the style you're trying to imitate so you can be sure you're getting it right. Jeans start at a very affordable £25 for ASOS's own brand but leg lengths are standard across all sizes. You also have the issue of not being able to try before you buy which comes with online shopping, but with such reasonable prices and so much choice you may decide the gamble is worth it.

As with all jeans, different cuts suit different people, and there's a whole debate on whether shorter legged girls can get away with skinny fit and bright colours, but I think if you have the confidence you've won half the battle! So brighten things up while the weathers grey and bring summer into your life that little bit sooner!
