Burmese cyclone tragedy - aid appeal
I figure bloggers have a social responsibility to write about the the things that matter as well as the mundane every day posts, which is why today I'm highlighting the recent cyclone tragedy in Burma. The story is currently all over the news and the article that triggered today's post was the front cover of The Metro this morning. The front page displayed the photo shown on this post, with an apology for shocking or offending but the dire need for aid deserved some attention grabbing. Cyclone Nargis hit Burma on 3rd May and so far 22,000 people were killed, swept away in their sleep. Corpses litter the area and 60,000 people are still missing with many more injured who may die due to lack of aid. It's estimated 1 million people have been left homeless or injured. Indian, Thai and Chinese aid is the only help received so far due to Burma's military Junta, leaving victims suffering from terrible injuries and without water or food.
With all this in mind, The Metro has launched a £4 campaign to raise £10million to help the Burmese people. I am urging everyone who reads this post to spare £4 (which is nothing, the cost of your lunch today) and donate it to help aid the victims. I will certainly be doing so if not more... after all how can a person who just spent £89 on a new bike and £80 on hair straighteners NOT donate to help people sorely in need of aid.
