Shoreditch retro
What a lovely weekend I had! Saturday was spent grazing in Borough Market, noming on Ostrich, Chicken and Springbok burgers (I didn’t have all three, just a bite from each!), oysters and the odd taster tidbit from various stands. Then off to Spitalfields market (which had no stalls open… boo) and a saunter down Brick Lane, surrounded by day glo Rayban wearing trendies, who outside of Shoreditch look tres fashionable, but within the confines of their graffitied London playground, look like clones of each other – skinny jeans, undercuts, sunnies and check shirts. Shoreditch market was a treasure trove of retro goodies. 60’s prints of blue skinned ladies sat in amongst sad bloodhound cartoon china dogs and 50’s netted hats. Even the stall holders are reto-cute, like the cupcake lady I asked to take a photo of! Post shopping, we walked to the best Bagel shop in London and nommed on FAT filled salt beef bagels. Yum.
Sunday was again centred around more food, with dim sum at Wing Yip (we got side tracked on a trip for ingredients for dinner at the Chinese supermarket) and a brilliant get together with my Chinese teacher Peggy, and my two classmates Cat and Suze, as well as my new roomie Meme and my boyf. Hot pot was a lengthy affair (and a bit hot for this weather) as we munched on various fish balls, sliced beef and pork and prawns, followed by chocolate cheesecake courtesy of Cat, grass jelly and lychees, and fruit salad. Peggy brought round some fab red wine too!
*sigh* the only problem with having such a jam packed, fun and enjoyable weekend, is that it meant it flew by far too fast… and here were are, back at Monday morning. The beginning of another week of the daily grind.
