The Vatican is on MySpace?!

What the hell? I just read on current.com that the Vatican listed 'Changes' by Tupac as one of their fave songs... er, hold up... ignoring the fact the Vatican apparently loves rap... what on EARTH are they doing on MySpace in the first place?! Who precisely at the Vatican decided to put forward the idea of a MySpace page?? Did they have a round-table discussion on reaching out to 'the youth' and the Pope exclaimed "hey, let's create a facebook fan page, and while we're at it, how about Bebo and MySpace too! That'll be down with the kids!".

Here's the Vatican's apparent list of favourite tracks...
  1. Advocata Nostra – Music From The Vatican. From the album Alma Mater featuring the voice of Pope Benedict XVI.
  2. Uprising – Muse. Single from the album, The Resistance.
  3. Causa Nostrae Laetitiae – Music From The Vatican. From the album Alma Mater.
  4. Il Mare Mi Salva – Rossomalpelo. Song from the band led by contemporary Italian singer songwriter Serge Gaggiotti
  5. After The Rain – Dame Shirley Bassey. From the album The Performance.
  6. Coexist – Nour Eddine. Song from Moroccan Musician, based in Italy.
  7. Don Giovanni – Mozart.
  8. Rafaele Merry Del Val – Lorenzo Perosi Inni Mottetti e Canzoni, Pablo Colino & Coro Academica Filarmonica Romana.
  9. He Doesn't Know Why – Fleet Foxes.
  10. Changes – Tupac Shakur.
  11. Regina Coeli – Music From The Vatican. From the album Alma Mater.
  12. Mi sarete Testimoni – Santo Subito! (DVD). Music DVD embodying the voice and image of The Pope.
WTF?! I'm all for religion and having a belief, but this just kind of smacks of PR attempt? Like the Pope generated a list of his favourite songs (which were all hymns) and some PR dude turned round and said "no no no this won't do... you come across stuffy and out of touch... you HAVE to have some Muse in there!". Shirley Bassey, ok, maybe slightly more believable... although the image of the Pope dancing round his bedroom belting out 'hey big spender' just doesn't quite sit right either...

Seriously... the Pope... on MySpace... the world has become a crazy crazy place...
