The trouble with eczema in the summer...

Summer is great for kids. Sunshine, splashing in paddling pools, eating ice creams… only it's not so great for munchkin. The sunshine flares her eczema. Paddling pools mean bare arms and legs, free for little hands to scratch her skin til it's raw. Ice cream is a no no as she's dairy intolerant. Bedtime means sweltering in full on baby grows covered top to toe despite the heat as any exposed skin gets scratched in her sleep. Day time she's covered in winter tights and long sleeved tops even though it's 30 degrees. Then the sweat and the sun cream makes her itch anyway. It's all a bit pants to be honest.

So after seeing the Everything For Eczema stand at the Allergy and Free From expo recently I decided to try out some of their scratch sleeves. Munchkin thought they were hilarious when she tried them on at the show so I've ordered a couple in the hope that they stay on over night. Last night her room was 31 degrees, yet she was dressed in a baby grow. I felt so guilty tossing and turning in my bed, sweating like crazy, and all I had on was a light slip. God knows how she slept covered top to toe. The scratch sleeves come in two types. I bought one of each. The ones I'll use for the day look like a bolero with flip scratch mitts which are silk lined to provide movement so even if she scratches when they're flipped to cover her hands the silk slides and she can't do any damage to her skin. The night time ones are permanently closed. They look super cute and the day time ones will be handy when it's chilly! Let's hope she likes them and keeps them on!
