The most amazing meal EVER

Blergh so tired this morning! Last night I went to The Fat Duck with my cousin and friend and didn't get to bed until half 2. It was well worth it though! The food was SO good and not just because of the flavours... I met them at Paddington station and we got a train to Maidstone. The restaurant is in this little village looking place and is very unassuming looking from the outside. We started eating at 8 but didn't finish until midnight! Here's what we ate and WHY it was so amazing!

NITRO-GREEN TEA AND LIME MOUSSE
The waitress came over with a trolley with a cannister, a jug and a bowl on it. She poured liquid nitrogen into the bowl and then squirted a dollop of egg white infused with green tea and lime into it. The once it was frozen she put it on a plate, dusted it with green stuff (sprayed something ncie smelling in the air over the table) and instructed us to place the whole thing in our mouths straight away! Apparently this was a pallet cleaner... the green tea cleans the pallet and the lime gets rid of any fats in your mouth!

OYSTER AND PASSION FRUIT JELLY, LAVENDER
Self explanatory really!

POMMERY GRAIN MUSTARD ICE CREAM, RED CABBAGE GASPACHO
This was a huge plate with a teeny dip in the middle and a teaspoon size serving of mustard ice-cream. Was very weird having savory ice-cream with onions but the red cabbage gaspacho was nice and it looked really pretty...

QUAIL JELLY, CREAM OF LANGOUSTINE, PARFAIT OF FOIE GRAS
OAK MOSS AND TRUFFLE TOAST
The quail jelly, cream of langoustine and parfait of foie gras was served in this egg cup and all layered on top of each other and the oak moss and truffle toast was on a wooden block next to it. They put a box in the middle of the table with moss in it and 3 plastic boxes with those dissolving strips you usually get as mint breath fresheners. We were told to put the strip in our mouths and then take a bite of the oak moss and truffle toast.

SNAIL PORRIDGE
Looked luminous green but tasted really nice, more like a risotto than porridge.

ROAST FOIE GRAS
- Almond fluid gel, cherry, chamomile
One of my favourite courses... quite a big piece of foie gras and it melted in your mouth. You didn't even need to chew!

"SOUND OF THE SEA"
They didn't explain this one until after but we each got a shell with headphones coming out of it playing sounds of the seaside and a glass plate with what looked like sea foam, sand and seaweed on it. It was actually baby eels and tapioca (sand) razor clams, mussells, cockles, 3 or 4 different types of seaweed and some kind of reduction for the foam. Was really nice!!

SALMON POACHED WITH LIQUORICE
- Perthuis asparagus, “Manni” olive oil
Wasn't too sure about this one. I like liquorice but not sure if it went with the salmon. The salmon was slightly slimy as it was poached but really tender, not over cooked, and was encased in this black liquorice rubbery edible covering.

ALLOTINE OF ANJOU PIGEON
- Black pudding “to order”, Chinese pigeon cracker, Pickling brine and spiced pigeon juices
I've never had pigeon before and it was really good... almost like it was rare as it wasn't tough or fibrous like normal meat. The black pudding was actually a sauce and really nice.

FRENCH CHEESES

They came over with a trolley and you could select which cheeses you wanted to sample so I chose smelly ones and blue ones. The boys complained as I stunk the table out but the cheeses were so nice!

HOT AND ICED TEA

Wasn't sure why it was called this until I got half way through. Was a shot glass with tea jelly and the first sip was hot, but once I got half way through, half the tea going into the left side of my mouth was hot (as in temperature) and the right side was stone cold! Really weird but clever and tasted yummy!

MRS MARSHALL’S MARGARET CORNET
They gave us a little leaflet on the history of Mrs Marshall and then gave us these diddy ice cream cones which had spiced apple ice cream with ginger bits at the bottom.

PINE SHERBET FOUNTAIN
This was a posh liquorice fountain but had a vanilla pod as a stick and pine sherbert inside.

MANGO AND DOUGLAS FIR PUREE
- Bavarois of lychee and mango, blackcurrant sorbet, Blackcurrant and green peppercorn jelly
This was a nice dessert. The fir puree I THINK was the white stuff with a layer of mango on top...

PARSNIP CEREAL

They gave us a box of cereal each, a bowl and some parsnip milk and we poured it like we were having breakfast... yum

NITRO-SCRAMBLED EGG AND BACON ICE CREAM
- Pain perdu, tea jelly
The waitress came over with a trolley and copper pot on a stand. She poured liquid nitrogen into the copper pot, cracked special eggs (which looked like standard eggs) into it and stirred. She then put a spoon of the 'scrambled eggs' onto a piece of french toast and gave us an egg cup each which had tea jelly in it. The 'scrambled eggs' ice cream was salty tasted of bacon and the french toast was glazed with sugar and was sweet with a sugar piece of bacon which looked real!

CHOCOLATES

Last course was some mint chocolates, mandarin chocolates which looked like aeros, whiskey wine gums (which I didn't like as they tasted like medicine) and violet tarts which the boys thought was too sweet but I liked.

So that was my meal... AMAZING food, felt VERY full after... but was a brilliant experience!
Got my makeover later so will write about THAT tomorrow.. phew!
